Way back in the dark times, before 1993, I was designing and building desktop and client/server applications in MS-DOS, Novell Netware and Windows (including v1!)
Somewhere around 1993, while working on a website for my then current employer (while I was living in Cancún, Mexico) I thought there had to be something more to the internet than just making a “brochure site.” I designed a web-based app to replace a slow, networked client/server app for our inventory control system that used to literally take 5-10 minutes to get a response from inventory queries (satellites were involved, databases located on servers in other countries…yay.) The result was an application that cut that query/response time to less than 30 seconds. I fell in love with web-based apps (and the staff fell in love with me 🙂 ) at that time and have not looked back since.
I have been designing and coding software and web applications for over 20 years (yes I was one of those little geeks that started programming on the first IBM PC AT…) I love to combine skills and techniques I have learned and discovered over the years with new ones. I love learning news ways of solving problems or making someone’s job a little less stressful.
Lately I have been experimenting with web-controlled hardware…using platforms like nodeJS running on a Raspberry Pi and Arduino to allow people to control “something” via a browser or smartphone, but the majority of my time is spent just making really cool websites for high-profile clients (such as US Marines, JiffyLube, Quaker State and Pennzoil) and trying to learn new things about my craft.
I am a Star Wars and Firefly geek and believe the only real band ever in the history of music (or that will ever be) is Rush. So there.
